More recently developed than other areas of the city, the West Loop is an up-and-coming area of Chicago. This trendy, urban community provides a unique balance of modern, new buildings and historical architecture. The area was once a warehouse district but has since been transformed into a vibrant, young, and popular community with a growing number of townhomes and condos.

The vibe in the West Loop is lively and quickly becoming one of Chicago’s ‘hot’ neighborhoods. A National Association of Realtors survey of first-time buyers between July 2013 and June 2014 found that the median age of these buyers was 31 and that the median home size purchased was 1,570 square feet. Once nothing more than warehouses and factories, West Loop has become much more urban but maintains its gritty bones. Nevertheless, there is something to do, see, or eat at every corner in this area. Start with a trip to Douglas Dawson Gallery, one of the most important locations for historic and ancient African art. UIC Theater seats about 250 people and offers various live productions throughout the year. Au Cheval is a local favorite and upscale diner serving up amazing burgers and an impressive list of beers.

Other fantastic places to eat are available on just about every street. Wishbone Restaurant is located near United Center and offers a fantastic, eclectic menu. Santorini Restaurant is one of the best in the area for Greek food. For authentic Asian cuisine, visit Saigon Sisters and for the very best in quality wine, visit City Winery in its building that dates from 1911.
